Author's Note: There are a few things I have to explain here before you go on. There are two versions to this story for a reason. I was in a groove and pumping parts out like mad, so I sat down and wrote this. It wasn't until I'd read it that I realized my mistake, Goku is dead at this point. (And if he isn't, you'll have to forgive me, but the second version is better, in my opinion.) It's supposed to be right before Trunks leaves from what in the normal timeline is his second trip. I sat there and groaned and laughed about it, then rewrote. The second version is from Tien's POV. I thought I'd post them both for the shits and giggles. "Not Much Between Despair and Ecstasy" By Ani Chapter Fifteen - Is That What You Want The bad version He just finished his good-byes and turned to the time machine, climbing in. He stopped halfway as he saw the pictures peeking out from under the seat. He grabbed them and hopped down, turning back to the others. "I almost forgot." "What, Trunks, is something else gonna happen?" Goku asked as they approached each other. Trunks smiled, "No, nothing like that. They wanted me to give these to you guys. Unfortunately, there's only three," he replied, placing some photos in Goku's hand. Goku smiled as the turned them around. It was a simple little family picture. Gohan stood proud and happy, holding a little black-haired girl on his right. Zandre stood a little bit in front and on his left, holding almost a replica of his son at that age; only a tuff of hair in front was black, the rest green like hers. Above Gohan's left shoulder, a small green head smiled nervously. He turned to his son standing beside him with a confused look. Goku just smiled and handed Gohan a copy. He stared at it, getting more confused. He handed it back to his father as Goku passed out the other two. Bulma peeked over Goku's shoulder. "Oh, they're adorable! How old are they?" "That's an older picture; they're two there. They're three now, and anxious for their little sister," he announced, watching their 'father' and 'grandfathers'. "What do you mean?" Tien choked out. "Amaya could be there when I get back. That's why they didn't come. Aiko's been fulfilling his part as big brother. He's keeping Taka and Nozomi out of their hair." He paused, laughing, "Those two are a handful." Everyone stood there in shock, watching as Trunks disappeared with the time machine. One by one, everyone left, passing on a photo before leaving. Piccolo was the first to leave, and to the amazement of everyone, take a picture. Baby Trunks' fussing made Bulma leave. When her hovercar was almost out of sight, Vegeta took off, following. Yamcha said his good-byes and left abruptly. Gohan slowly started walking away, trying to sort out what all this meant to him. Goku's eyes followed his son. I wish I knew how to help you, Gohan. He turned to the picture in his hand. Should I tell ChiChi? She'll want to know why he's acting like this, he thought, turning back to his son. "Tien." Chaotzu's singsong voice made Goku turn to his companions. The three-eyed Xanthan stood there, staring at the copy he had, tears standing in his eyes. He looked up at Goku, then turned to Chaotzu before resting his gaze on Gohan. He slipped the picture into his pocket. "Let's go, Chaotzu! It's a long way there." "Yeah!" Chaotzu cried, jumping into the air, following Tien as they left. Goku smiled, guessing what they were doing as turned back to his son. Gohan had stopped near a tree, trying to make sense by scratching it into the dirt with a stick. Goku turned back to the photo, smiling. Now you're happy, but he's confused. He ran a finger under Zandre's chin. I wonder if you two will love so completely if you meet in this life, he thought, turning back to Gohan. "I guess we'll see, huh." The good version We all stood there; watching this Trunks, the older one from the other time, climb into the time machine. He stopped and, leaning in and gabbing something, jumped down and came back over. He stopped in front of me, holding some photos. "I almost forgot, they wanted you guys to have these. But there's only three." I slowly took them as everyone crowded around us. I turned the photos around to find them there, smiling. Gohan stood there, holding a black-haired little girl that looked so much like… She was there too, standing in front and a little to the left, a little boy in her arms, so much like Gohan; only a small part on the front of his hair was black, the rest was her green. The little Namek was hovering behind Gohan, peeking over his left shoulder. I absently handed the other two off, still staring at it as I heard Bulma say, "Oh, they're adorable! How old are they?" "That's an old picture, they're two there. They're three now and anxious for their little sister," he replied casually, watching me as my heart jumped into my throat. "What do you mean?" I forced out. "Amaya could be there when I get back. That's why they didn't come. Aiko's been fulfilling his part as big brother. He's keeping Taka and Nozomi out of their hair." He paused, laughing to himself, "Those two are a handful." I turned back to the picture, that flash and boom telling he left. I looked up as the first ki left, watching Piccolo leave. "Hey," Yamcha called, pointing to me and Gohan. Piccolo took one of them. Slowly everyone left, our Trunks needing to be fed, Vegeta following Bulma after she was out of sight. Yamcha just shot off, still amazed or confused about them. I took one last look at the picture before I turned to him. He had walked away a bit, absorbed in the picture's tale and wondering what it meant to him. It doesn't mean anything now, unless I go get her. So someone feels as confused as I do. And he doesn't have his father to talk this over with anymore. I slowly approached, finding him staring at the picture, at her. It suddenly reminded me of that one's dream. I placed a caring hand on his shoulder, and he turned, barely smiling. "So…?" I whispered, not sure if I could say it all, let alone do it. He turned back to the photo in his hand, his other barely touching her hair, "I'm not sure." He paused, smiling back at her. "It would be nice to… have a friend right now," he finished, choking on his tears. I gave his shoulder a gentle squeeze before I let go and he took off. I watched him disappear, my vision blurring from the unshed tears. "That it would, Gohan, that it would."
